SCLL Play Ball June- July Plan

The SCLL Play Ball Plan

  1. We’re hoping to get a month of baseball and softball games starting in early June and running through July. The season will consist of games only as field rental space is expensive and limited.

  2. Two weeks before we are able to resume (targeting early June) coaches will be in touch with to confirm teams, player participation, and communicate schedules. We strongly recommend that players start throwing consistently so we can hit the field and minimize injury.

  3. For the upper divisions ( Minors and Majors baseball, AA/AAA and Majors Softball) we will work with our friends in the Rainier District to hold cross-team tournaments in July.

Unfortunately due to a lack of field space, T-ball, Rookies, Coach Pitch, Intermediate and JR’s divisions are canceled for the season. While the board would love to host these divisions this season, we are logistically unable to do so due to a lack of field reservations.

League Financial Needs and credit towards the 2021 Season

As many of you know, SCLL is a volunteer-run 501(c) (3) non-profit, and thus, finances are tight.

Between existing field fees, pre-season gear replacement, safety equipment and other league expenses much of our operating budget is committed before we ever take the field. Our budget is replenished throughout the season by local sponsorships, corporate giving and volunteer time grants - of which we will receive little to none this season.

Despite this, the SCLL board voted to credit 100% of 2020 registration fees towards next season for divisions impacted by the cancellation.

For those that want to return to play we will credit 50% of your 2020 registration fee to 2021.

We feel this decision is the best way to ensure that SCLL has the resources needed to make a small season happen this year and start next season in a successful position to make the 2021 season great for all returning players.

We realize though that there will be a number of players and teams that are unable to return, due to age or other reasons. For refund inquiries, please contact Angie Valenta, the SCLL Registrar at [email protected]

Don’t hesitate to Give

It’s a difficult time for many, and we recognize that the impact of COVID-19 has had a profound impact on many families. Our goal as a community organization is to help as many players and families play ball as possible, and anticipate extra support will be needed for next season.

To prepare for this demand, I encourage you to give to our 2021 COVID-19 fund. Our goal is to raise $10,000 in order to dramatically boost our ability to offer support to those who need it.

This can be done in a few ways, by donating your registration fee this season by paying in full next year, or by making a tax-deductible gift via this link https://causes.benevity.org/projects/332150.

Thank you in advance and know that your donation is very much appreciated!

We remain hopeful that we’ll be able to play again in June. Thank you for your patience and support and please stay safe and healthy.

Best,

Mike Merwin
