The Garfield Super Block project is underway to renovate all of the areas surrounding Garfield Playfield including the playground, restrooms, walkways and other amenities. While this is an exciting project for the Central District community, it does impose on SCLL's access to our primary fields for baseball and softball games during our 2026 season.
As of March 2026, here is what you need to know when accessing Garfield Playfield for games and practices:
- All access to Garfield Playfield is from the southwest corner, via the Garfield High School visitor parking lot. There is no access from the east side (25th Ave) or north side (E Cherry St/Garfield Community Center).
- To access Field #2 and Field #3 where SCLL baseball and softball games and practices are held, walk down the sidewalk on the west side of Field #1 and then use the fenced corridor between the fence and the sidewalk. The path traverses rough/muddy ground next to the large trees on the edge of the playfield. Enter the outfield and proceed to Field #2 or Field #3. The access path to the field is not accessible by wheelchair or by those with impaired mobility.
- If a game or practice is taking place on Field #1, do NOT cut through the outfield of Field #1 to get to Field #2 or #3. Stay to the left of the orange cones.
- Spectator bleachers are setup in right and left field for Field #3 and in right field for Field #2. There is no spectator viewing area behind home plate for either field.
- Spectators may also be able to view games from the GHS staff parking lot to the south of Field #2. Please exercise caution in the parking lot. It is in active use by Garfield staff and not intended for SCLL spectators.
- Portable restrooms are available in the southwest corner, behind home plate of Field #1
